It was in the theater at the age of 10 that Ryan Wildstar’s long creative career began. At 16, after finishing his studies at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, he went on to University to pursue acting, literature and directing.
In 1992, he staged his first play, Unnatural Habit, which he wrote, stared in, directed, produced and scored. It was during the recording of the soundtrack for the play that Ryan began working with Paris, the keyboard player for the Los Angeles-based group, Shadow Project. This explosive collaboration persuaded the duo to form the group EXP, a post-jazz, post industrial tour de force with a vast repertoire of musicians including Doriandra (Pica, Chokebore), Ace Farren Ford (Smegma, The Mystery Band), Rozz Williams (Christian Death, Shadow Project, Premature Ejaculation), Justin Bennet (Peter Murphy, Skinny Puppy, My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult), Ignacio Segovia and Christian Omar Madrigal Izzo (Shadow Project, Chokebore). Before releasing their self-titled debut album, “E.X.P.” on Triple X records, the group toured extensively on the West Coast of the United States, where their unforgettable live performances blended music, dance, cinema, theater and poetry.
It was during this period that Wildstar also collaborated with his friend and spiritual brother, Rozz Williams, founder and singer of the legendary group Christian Death. Together they wrote the album, “The Whorse’s Mouth,” as well lyrics that were featured on the Rozz albums, “Dream Home Heartache,” and “Neue Sachlichkeit.”

At the end of the 1990’s, Wildstar relocated to Paris, where he began the next phase of his artistic career as an assemblage artist. In 2000, he debuted his first art exposition in Paris entitled, “Inquietude Extreme,” where he was more than warmly received by the Parisian public. Between 2000-2007, he garnered great acclaim in Paris from the art world, selling-off most of his body of work in a continuous series of Expositions, culminating in a show at Atelier Z Centre Culturel Christiane Peugeot situated between the Arc de Triomphe and the Palais de Congrès on the prestigious Avenue de la Grande Armée.
In 2005, he returned to Los Angeles to begin work on a new solo album of music, Ryan Wildstar- A City of Brittle Stars, (available on itunes soon). Most recently, he published the posthumous poetry of long-time friend Rozz Williams, “And What About the Bells?” with French publishers Camion Blanc and opens his latest United States tour of his art (November 20th- Dec 18th, 2010) at the Art From the Ashes Gallery.

Last but not least, Ryan and his husband of 11 years, Ryan O’Connell-Elston, have started their own Publishing company, Two Scribes Press, where they intend to publish their respective writing as well as a series of anthologies and the long-awaited avant garde publication, “The Magi Zine.” Stay tuned for the Two Scribes Press website soon with more details!
